ATLANTA - On March 14, 2011, 10:00 am the Georgia State Conference NAACP along with Coalition Partners will hold a press conference calling on Governor Deal to veto House Bill 326 and redraft to include adding salary cap for families at $140,000. Grandfather all existing Hope Scholarships (which would include payment for books and fees), and allowing all students with 3.0 GPA to qualify for full scholarship.

House Bill 326 in it's current form will provide access to higher education for the rich at the expense of the poor. Many poor and minority and blacks play the Lottery but will not be among the many recipients of the Scholarship with the current legislation that the Governor is prepared to sign.

The NAACP will also address the possibility of discouraging participation in the Lottery unless the Governor vetos this legislation and works to redraft to include the changes as stated above.

A letter will be hand carried to the Governor immediately following the press conference.

WHAT: Press conference to demand veto and redrafting of House Bill 326.

WHO: Georgia State Conference NAACP and Coalition Partners.

WHEN: Monday, March 14, 2011, 10:00 am.

WHERE: Outside the Georgia State Capitol, Washington Street Side,
