THE GEORGIA STATE CONFERENCE NAACP, NAACP National Delegation along with Local and
National supporting organizations will have a meeting to discuss the inmate Strikes and Deteriorating State of the Prison System to be held at the Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner’s Office Friday, December 17, 2010 at 3:00 p.m.
WHO: The Georgia State Conference NAACP, NAACP National Delegation, along with local and National supporting organizations such as SCLC, Southern Center for Human Rights, Concern Black Clergy, Coalition for the People’s Agenda, Nation of Islam and the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus.

December 16, 2010, Georgia State Conference NAACP, in conjunction with the NAACP National Delegation
joined by local and national supporting organizations will attend a meeting with Derrick Schofield at the office
of the Department of Corrections (DOC) December 17, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. to discuss the Deteriorating State of the Prison System in the State of Georgia. After being informed about inmate strikes as it relates to the
conditions, and health issues, lack of access to families of prisoners; President DuBose has decided to take a stand and seek justice for the inmates who are crying out for help. Over the past few months of observation and assessing the request of family members, friends and inmates the time has come to explore the facts and
allegations presented by the inmate’s who fear for the safety of their lives.
The purpose of the meeting is to focus on four objectives, as a result of the inmates strikes at several Georgia Prisons which are to 1) End to use of excessive force on inmates; 2) End of retaliation for inmates practicing non-violence and peaceful protesting; 3) Request for a demand fact finding team comprised of members of the coalition; and 4) Follow up meeting with the DOC Commissioner Brian Owens and newly elect Governor Nathan Deal.
There will be a press conference immediately following the meeting to make a statement on behalf of the staff and inmates in the Georgia State Prison System (Location outside of DOC Building).
