Georgia, October 5, 2010 - The Georgia State Conference NAACP presents the 68th Annual Convention and Civil Rights Conference hosted by the NAACP DeKalb County Branch October 7-10, 2010 at Antioch Lithonia Missionary Baptist Church located at 2152 Rock Chapel Rd. Lithonia, GA 30058 and Stonecrest Mall Host Hotels Hyatt Place and Fairfield Inn.



While celebrating 101 years of community service we welcome all to join us as we bring together community leaders, advocates of the civil rights movement along with elected and appointed public officials. The NAACP will acknowledge them for their outstanding commitment to service in the community, the Armed Forces, college and public service. In addition, there will be educational, informative and resourceful workshops that will comprise of technology, health, social networking, and access to the media.



Some of our dynamic featured participants include Honoree Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond, and keynote speaker for the Labor Relations Breakfast, President Richard Ray president of the AFL-CIO, General James E. Donald as keynote speaker for the Veterans Affairs Ball, where we pay homage to the men in women veterans apart of the Armed forces, Ambassador Andrew Young Keynote Speaker for the Freedom Fund Banquet and our very own State President Edward DuBose. Special invited guest is the City of Lithonia Honorable Mayor Tonya Peterson to bring greetings for most scheduled events; Image Award recipients includes Mr. Roosevelt Jackson, a former Negro league baseball player who is slated to be placed in the Negro league baseball hall of fame a living legend, along with Congressman John Lewis, Representative Tyrone Brooks and Representative Abdul-Salaam (District 74) to name a few.

Thursday-October 7, will consist of the Religious Leaders Breakfast- The NAACP recognizes the support of interfaith community and religious leaders locally and statewide, featuring panel discussion with a collection of very accomplished ministers featuring Dr. Richard Cobble, President of the Concerned Black Clergy.

Community Mass Meeting & Memorial program Gospel Extravaganza- Featuring today’s most popular gospel entertainers and the NAACP Mass Choir which offers churches to headline gospel acts, and allows sponsors to be accompanied by a broad attending audience. NAACP Council of Presidents Luncheon- Designed to provide an opportunity for NAACP Branch Presidents, Youth Council Presidents and State Conference Presidents to interface with the NAACP President to voice concerns that affect the Associations grassroots operations.

Friday-October 8, Health Symposium Workshop – The Health Symposium Workshops features a guest speaker Shavon Arline to present topics of health concerns in the African American community. Labor Relations Breakfast -The NAACP recognizes Labor Unions and their contribution and long fight for equality in the work place, featuring Keynote Speaker Richard Ray, President of AFL-CIO.

Political Forum (Statewide) - Featuring Statewide Candidates invited to attend while Gubernatorial Candidates Panel consist of (Governor, U.S. Attorney, Secretary of State, Attorney General and Labor Commissioners)

Veterans Affair Ball- 1st Annual Maceo Snipes Gala Attracting attendees from all of the service branches and to recognize the achievements and sacrifices of our men and women in the Armed Forces, featuring Commissioner James E. Donald as Keynote Speaker

Saturday-October 9, Women In The NAACP (WIN) – The Women in The NAACP recognize the tremendous work and accomplishments of the Women of the NAACP in the continuing fight for civil rights in their communities and on the local and state levels. Youth Freedom Fund – The NAACP recognizes the contributions that our youth councils and college chapters have made throughout the year, as well as those supporting the efforts of the NAACP Youth and College students. Afro-Academic Cultural Technological & Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) & Youth Division Social- This social provides an opportunity for the NAACP ACT-SO student and Youth & College Division to network with their peer leaders within the 1,700 branches across the country. Freedom Fund Banquet – The Annual Fund Raiser that recognizes people in the community for outstanding contribution to civil and human rights, Featuring Keynote Speaker Ambassador Andrew Young.
