ACT-SO

The Dekalb Branch of the NAACP and the national organization has a unique program that promotes academic excellence, ACT-SO. ACT-SO is an acronym for Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics. There are 26 unique categories that 9th-12th graders can participate and win cash awards. Each youth that wins at the local branch level can go to the NAACP National Convention and compete. Please follow this link http://www.naacp.org/programs/entry/act-so for more information. I am also attaching a PowerPoint and more detail on the program.

If you have high school students that may want to go with us to the national competition in Los Angeles Califorina, all they have to do is join the youth council of the branch, $15 youth membership with the Crisis magazine or $10 without the magazine You can mail in the attached application or go www.dekalbganaacp.org join online. Then work with the ACT-SO committee to prepare for the competition. We would like to sign up kids by Nov 30, so they will have ample time to prepare for the local and national competitions. If your high schooler is in another county I can direct them to the local ACT-SO program Please forward this on to other who you think might want to participate.
