GEORGIA STATE CONFERENCE NAACP TO HOST
2012 LEGISLATIVE & LOBBY DAY
NAACP State & Local Leadership Convene at State Capitol
Atlanta, Georgia, February 4, 2012—The bleak economy, redistricting and reapportionment, abolishing the death penalty, and baseless efforts to keep President Barack H. Obama's name off the state's ballot in the March presidential primary, will likely dominate conversations with lawmakers during the annual Legislative & Lobby Day hosted by the Georgia State Conference (GSC) NAACP.

On Wednesday, February 8th, 2012, at 9:30 A.M., the GSC NAACP will open Legislative & Lobby Day with a series of workshops on lobbying. "The workshops are to ensure that everyone is comfortable with the lobbying process and are poised to be effective advocates for civil rights," said Phyllis Blake, 3rd Vice President of the GSC NAACP.

Following the workshops, GSC NAACP members will visit with lawmakers to discuss key policy issues, including the Hope Scholarship, immigration, education and social service issues. "The NAACP has always been a partner and resource in the community to assist the legislators in bringing a unified democracy for all of the citizens of the state of Georgia," said GSC NAACP Political Action Committee Chair, Griffin Lotson. "The NAACP’s role is to guide Legislators and advocate for everyone-especially the poor, under-served and disenfranchised," Lotson added.

GSC NAACP President Edward O. DuBose will bring Legislative and Lobby Day to a close with a press conference on the steps of the Georgia State Capitol at 1:00 P.M., Washington Street side. "Legislative & Lobby Day is just one of many NAACP initiatives designed to bring important policy issues to the forefront," stated Dubose. "With so many affronts to education, public interests and civil rights in Georgia, we have to be more vigilant than ever before about protecting and preserving our civil rights and interests."
